RN-Yuganskneftegaz Reaches New Daily Output Record

07 August 2019

RN-Yuganskneftegaz, part of the Rosneft Oil Company oil-producing complex, has reached a new absolute historic daily output record of 198,008 tonnes. It is the highest level throughout the history of the enterprise’s production activities since 1964, that is more than 800 tonnes higher than the previous record, reached in October, 2018.

This high result was achieved due to the staff’s professional work, introduction of advanced technologies into the process of field development, increasing the resource base, successful development of hard-to-recover reserves, commissioning of new production capacity.

RN-Yuganskneftegaz introduces advanced technologies for involving hydrocarbon reserves from the low-permeability reservoirs into active development, and uses technologies for increasing oil recovery factor at mature fields as well. For several years the enterprise’s specialists together with the Company’s Corporate Research & Development Complex have been developing and testing various systems of horizontal well completion with multi-stage hydraulic fracturing (MSHF). After a series of successful pilot-scale tests mass drilling of horizontal wells with MSHF has been started at complex reservoirs.

New solutions for increasing the length of the horizontal section of a well to 1,500-2,000 metres and introduction of 20-stages hydraulic fracturing allow extension of economically viable drilling into marginal zones of the fields. For the development of low-permeability formations, the enterprise’s specialists change the geometry of hydrofracturing with the help of new technologies and use up-to-date geomechanical modelling. In concurrence with this, the development systems with introduction of cross-cut fractures are used, which help increase the fractures’ contact with the formation, enhancing the well’s productivity.

In Q2 2019, the enterprise drilled two wells at the Sorovskoye field using the new Fishbone technology with four lateral holes for different productive zones. The well’s start-up capacity reached 600 tonnes per day. Going forward, we plan to replicate this technology.

All horizontal and multilateral wells are drilled out using real-time geo-steering with the help of innovative program complexes developed by the Company and up-to-date logging approaches. This allows getting to thin formations with thickness of up to three metres at the depth of up to three kilometres with pinpoint accuracy.

In order to increase the effectiveness of field development, a series of geological and technical actions is conducted. Well rehabilitation is conducted with the side-tracking approach, well stimulation actions are used, physicochemical methods of enhanced oil recovery and flooding management activities are used extensively, and systems for dual-stream production are introduced.

In order to intensify output and enhance oil recovery factor, refracturing is applied to directional and horizontal wells, as well as infill drilling, including with the use of horizontal wells with MSHF.

New scientific and technological solutions, advanced technologies and development systems let us significantly increase the resource base and re-energise the development of RN-Yuganskneftegaz oil fields.

Rosneft pays careful attention to innovative activity, defining technological leadership as a key factor of competitiveness at the oil market, and that directly affects RN-Yuganskneftegaz production activities.

Notes for Editors:

RN-Yuganskneftegaz LLC is the key production asset of Rosneft Oil Company providing about 30 per cent of the Company’s total output. The accumulated output of Yuganskneftegaz has exceeded 2.35 billion tonnes of oil since the start of commercial operation. RN-Yuganskneftegaz operates 36 license blocks situated in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District - Yugra.

In 2018, the enterprise produced 70.2 million tonnes of oil.
